Star Player and Punt - Gameweek 37 - Yankee Sean v Shiva

Sean can’t stop winning; he seems to have the beating of everyone so this week we pitch up every salesman’s delight………..Shiva. As he says himself: “Kevo says I am easily sold on DGWs, but again with lucrative 180 minutes of game time, I can’t look beyond DGW players as my Punt and Star picks this week”. As usual both Sean and Shiva have chosen a Star player (free choice) and Punt (under 4% ownership).

Yankee Sean’s Star Player – Alexis Sanchez

Well here we are again going for win number 5 and by a Yank no less! It’s like the English team not winning the World Cup since 66. It’s a shame I’m not this good at picking the rest of my fantasy squad. This week I’ve gone for what Shiva is calling one of the safest bets in FPL history. I’ll own it. In a double game week not only is he a safe bet this week, he’s also the logical choice. If not him who? Ramsey? He’s about as brittle as a china doll and this season his numbers just haven’t been there. Last year his accuracy on goal was far superior at 71% compared to this year at just 37%. Ramsey is just not the player he was last year. Or how about Olivier Giroud who is Mr. Inconsistency incarnate? Giroud’s scoring always comes in waves. He’ll have a run of 3 or 4 games scoring then he’s silent for another 3 or 4 games. He actually had a good run of 6 games scoring but true to form Giroud’s been silent for the past 4 games. Yes, I’ll take the safe bet in Sanchez and run away with it.

Shiva’s Star Player – Aaron Ramsey

I didn’t have a choice of going with “probably the safest bet” Sanchez. If you look at the stats, Giroud is probably the next safer bet but Walcott and Welbeck being fit again I can see curtailed game time for Giroud and even a place on bench in one of the games. Though he is a slight doubt due to a knock, Aaron Ramsey is my Star player this week. With 3 goals, 4 assists and 8 bonus points in his last 7 games, he is starting to get back to his best though it’s a bit too late for Arsenal. He has this ability to instinctively be in the box to score from a rebound or tap in which makes him worth having in FPL. Wenger deployed him on the right flank recently which is not his best position but he gets to cut inside with Bellerin’s runs outside the full backs, and he can still cause damage to the opponents. After a stinging loss at home to Swansea I expect Arsenal to mean business in the next two games and score some goals in the process.

Shiva’s Punt – Jermain Defoe

It’s surprising that Jermaine Defoe is owned by only 2% of the managers given his record in the Premier League. Sunderland have not scored enough goals this season and that’s probably why they are in a relegation fight. They have everything to play for in the next 3 games, and if Defoe is at his poaching best, he can fire them to safety. He has a good record against Arsenal, and after Leicester almost secured their survival, they may not be as motivated as Sunderland in the other game. At 5.0 he is definitely worth a look for this DGW and is my punt to score double digit points.

Yankee Sean’s Punt – Danny Graham

I’ve decided to go with a real punt here. Sticking with another double game week player, Graham has been given the central striker position in the 4-3-3 that Sunderland’s been running, forcing Defoe out to the right. Graham has a goal and an assist in the last 2 games and I’m counting on him to add a couple more this coming week. I’ve even gone so far as to add him into my FPL squad this week as a good differential option in the hope I can make some ground up and get to my season goal of top 50k.
