Star Player and Punt – Gameweek 30 - Sean v Marco

I’m back! Yes, the Yank is back. Had a little mix up over who had won in GW27, but Kevo cleared it all up and set things right. Personally, I was just as surprised that I had won since I’m terrible at this. I’m a mediocre manager still trying to find my feet in this game after 3 years of regularly playing. I can only hope to strive to be as good as some of you seasoned vets who have lived, breathed and bled football since the first time the doctor slapped you on the behind and your daddy pulled a kit over your head in your cradle. I’ll get there someday. Anyway, on with the show so to speak.

One day you may be good as me Sean, but hopefully not this week, Surely Harry Kane can’t score every week although Leicester at home is as good as it comes despite Spurs’ love for a 0-1 home defeat. I believe Costa will cancel out your Kane and the real battle lies in the punt. Mane is a decent pick and could return but Walcott against a very weak Newcastle could be the jewel in the rough. Why did I not pick Giroud or Sanchez as my star I ask myself?

Enough of the small talk, let’s manage in hindsight for here on in.

Sean’s Star Player – Harry Kane

I chose Kane purely for his fixture against bottom dwelling Leicester. Well that and the fact that he’s just been an eye-popping revelation for the Spurs this season. The kid has carried Tottenham on his back for most of the season. It looks like they’ve struck gold with him when other more high profile players i.e. Adebayor and Soldado have been a huge disappointment to the club. After last week’s 3-0 thrashing by United, look for Tottenham to use this game to get back on track and deal out a little punishment of their own in response. Dare I say hat trick? That might be pushing it but Kane is certainly capable against a team that’s allowed 27 away goals this season, sits dead last in the table and on 19 points is almost certain to be relegated with only 10 games to play. To put it mildly, Leicester is just dreadful away from home.

Marco’s Star Player – Diego Costa

After Kevo robbed me of a chance to change the safest pick in FPL at the time, Alexis Sanchez, after his unfortunate injury the first time round, I’ve gone for another safe pick this time around. Diego Costa has bucked the trend in Chelsea front line flops – Didier Drogba aside.

At 11.0m he’s not cheap but then when did class ever come cheap? He’s the fourth highest striker in FPL in terms of points and with 18 goals to his name he knows where the onion bag is. With struggling Hull the hosts and who are also missing midfield stalwart Tom Huddlestone from the side – and Chelsea wishing to hit back after last week’s disappointing show against the Saints – I back Costa to bag a brace and put all the pressure on Sean.

Marco’s Punt – Theo Walcott

When this guy is playing regularly he’s a star pick. His recent year long injury coupled with the upturn in form of Cazorla, Ozil, Sanchez and the like has lessened Theo’s immediate requirement in the Arsenal starting 11. A Newcastle side in disarray host the Gunners this week as John Carver’s side if you believe reports only has 13 fit players to choose from for this match.

At 0.4% ownership there’s probably a few mavericks and a few that may of already been drawn in and scorned by his appeal already (myself and Kevo included). If Theo can get a good 60 – 80 minutes on the field though, his quality will surely shine through as long as he doesn’t frustrate us with his poor finishing!

Sean’s Punt – Sadio Mané

Before leaving for the African Cup of Nations, Mané was in scintillating form scoring 3 goals and an assist in 3 games. Since returning, he has struggled to say the least. He had a goal against QPR in GW24 and in the past 2 gameweeks has scored a goal and grabbed an assist on a penalty shout versus Chelsea. Maybe this is a sign of more to come and against 18th place Burnley it could be the perfect opportunity to get back on the scoring sheet. Over the past several weeks he’s had 20 goal attempts with 13 of them inside the box. Hopefully, he’ll start converting more of those chances which is why Mané is my punt player this week.

I hope Costa isn’t injured……..
