Star Player and Punt - Gameweek 27 - Steve v Yankee Sean

Last week Steve beat Liam 6-3 and this week faces new challenger Sean. I’ve noticed no one has yet managed to win 2 weeks running so will this finally be the week? Both have chosen a Star Player (free choice) and Punt (under 4% ownership). Here’s a bit about Yankee Sean!

My initial thoughts about finding out that I had been selected for my first Star Player and Punt can be summed up nicely with one elegant phrase. “F&%) me!” I was terrified. I’m not a writer or at least never professed to be one and my knowledge of the game is a drop in the bucket compared to most of you who have lived it almost your entire lives. I’m an American and only came to love watching this game a few short years ago when I saw Chelsea playing in the States. I can still remember Drogba’s wonder goal from 25 yards out that hit the top left corner of the net. At that point I think the spark had been struck. A few days later I watched a replay of Chelsea playing my favorite MLS team the Sounders and Frank Lampard scoring what I know now as a very “typical” Lampard goal. It was at that moment I became hooked. It probably could have been any other team Tottenham or Manchester United and maybe I would have been a supporter for them, but it was on this field, on this day that I became not only a fan of Chelsea but of the beautiful game.

So I am determined and hopeful that in my first venture into writing I don’t muck it up. Thank you Kevo for the honour of selecting me even though I know it’s just a bit of desperation as you can’t find anyone else. So here goes Yankee Sean’s selections (thank you again Kevo for that moniker I’m still trying to decide if I should be insulted or not).

Steve’s Star Player – Sergio Aguero

With a few teams not in action this weekend due to the League Cup final, my top pick this week goes to Aguero. Having scored 3 goals and 1 assist in his last 3 Premier League games, he is showing the type of form he was earlier in the season before his injury. With 10 game unbeaten Liverpool the visitors this week and City having played Barcelona, this is a bit of a risky one but after Liverpool playing on a Thursday away in Turkey and the Liverpool defence having a few injuries, there is no reason with his craft and guile why Aguero cannot score some points.

Yankee Sean’s Star Player – Alexis Sanchez

I have chosen Alexis Sanchez as my star player. The little Chilean has speed for days and his close ball control will be a difference maker as he cuts his way through the Everton defense which has been very porous at the back this season. He leads all midfielders with his 12 goals and has 7 assists to go along with it as well. After coming off his 2 game absence due to injury he’s been quiet the last 2 league games and also failed to make a difference in Arsenal’s loss to Monaco. However, I look for him to shake off the rust against Everton and contribute in a big way with 2 goals and an assist as Arsenal come storming back with a vengeance after a disappointing performance at home in the Champions League. That might be overly optimistic but I’ve always kind of lived by a ‘Go Big or Go Home!’ mentality.

Yankee Sean’s Punt – Radamel Falcao

Robin Van Persie has gone down with injury so I look for Radamel Falcao to step in and finally deliver in the clutch. Only 4 goals in 19 appearances Falcao has been a disappointment for Manchester United who have spent a boatload of money to bring him in on loan. United need to see if they still want to bring him back next year so I look for them to start him up front and give him another shot. This once prolific goal scorer needs to prove he belongs in the EPL and I’m sure he knows the writing is on the wall. Perform or go back to Monaco. Those are his options. He won’t disappoint. I see a goal and an assist out of him.

Steve’s Punt – Diafra Sakho

My punt this week is Sakho of West Ham.  He has scored 8 goals over the season and has settled well into the Premier League this season. He scored in the last game against Spurs and looks like he has recovered fitness after the was it or wasn’t it an injury in January that meant he did not play at the Africa Cup of Nations. With Palace the visitors and Andy Carroll out injured (I know I was surprised as well) Sakho should be leading the line for the Hammers in the weekend’s early kick off.
