Star Player and Punt - Gameweek 26 - Liam v Steve

After seeing off Tony 11-6 the next challenger is Liverpool based Steve, both have chosen a Star player (free choice) and Punt (under 4% ownership). Here’s an introduction written by Steve.

My name is Steve Davies, I am 33 years old and from the Wirral. For those that are not sure where the Wirral is, it’s on the other side of the River Mersey from Liverpool. I am a long suffering Evertonian who was fed stories by my granddad (my dad does not like football!) about the ‘school of science’ and the holy trinity midfield (Kendell, Ball & Harvey). As a goalkeeper my idol was Neville Southall. I am totally addicted to football and I will watch football from any part of the world! I am now in my 7th Season playing FPL.

Liam’s Star Player – Diego Costa

After his 3-game suspension, Diego Costa is back in action this weekend with a game at home to Burnley. Some people argue that he is still not one to have in your Fantasy team due to his poor disciplinary record, and inability to obtain bonus points. However, with 17 goals this season, I think that’s a load of rubbish. He will want to come back with a bang, and with the visitors failing to keep a clean sheet in their last 9 league games, it is surely a great opportunity to do so.

His last 3 league games saw him score 4 goals and rack up 28 points. As a Chelsea fan, and a fantasy player, I hope the time off won’t hinder his performance.

Steve’s Star Player – Harry Kane

My top pick is pretty hard to ignore at the moment – it is ‘the new Alan Shearer’: Harry Kane. There is not a lot more to say about the young English Spurs striker that has not already been said by the media and pundits! From a fantasy football view this lad is on a Suarez style run at the moment, picking up points in every game he plays in, scoring goals against the likes of Chelsea (2), Arsenal (2) and Liverpool (1) in recent games as well as WBA (2), Palace (1) and Leicester (1). He is also putting in assists for the rest of the team as well as the goals! With West Ham, whose form is in decline following their good start to the season, the visitors to ‘The Lane’ this gameweek, and the supporting cast at Spurs also looking good, there is no reason to believe that Kane’s good vain of scoring form won’t continue.

Steve’s Punt – Brown Ideye

Since Tony Pulis took over at West Brom they have became a different team. Apart from the game against Everton a few weeks back they have looked like creating goals as well as being defensively solid. Key to this has been the combination up front of Berahino and Ideye. In his last two league games Ideye has 2 goals and an assist in 185 minutes of football, as well as 2 goals against West Ham in the FA Cup at the weekend. This gameweek sees West Brom travel up to the north east to face a Sunderland side who are in and around them at the bottom of the league and Ideye has a very reasonable chance to get on the score sheet.

Liam’s Punt – Sadio Mane

Another tricky choice this week, but I have gone with Southampton’s Sadio Mane. Priced at 6.6, I was actually quite surprised to see that he is only owned by 1.6% of teams. There was some uncertainty about his game time with Elia coming into the frame, but Koeman seems happy to start them both, with Tadic falling out of favour.

He has scored 4 and assisted 1 in his last 6 league appearances and seems to be the Saints biggest threat at the moment. A home game to Liverpool is not going to be easy, but I think Mane’s pace could hurt the often shaky back line.
