Star Player and Punt - Gameweek 21 - Villa Simon v Sleno
Sleno overcame Aaron, Mesh, Shiva, Marco and Kevo in the 6-way Festive Punt and becomes Villa Simon’s next opponent as we enter the second half of the season. Both have chosen a Star Player (free choice) and Punt (under 4% ownership).
Sleno of course needs no introduction……so I won’t give him one!
Villa Simon’s Star Player – Eden Hazard
One of a few potential star player choices available, Hazard’s recent great form, together with a home banker (you would like to think against a managerless Toon Army), it makes Eden a potential high GW points scorer.
In the league, he has only failed to score in one home game since September, on the other hand, the last time he failed to either score or assist was in this reverse fixture earlier in the campaign! My prediction is a 3-0 home win with Hazard scoring, assisting and picking up bonus points for a double figure points return.
Sleno’s Star Player – Alexis Sanchez
Until they got relegated from the Premier League, if your team was going through a bad patch a home fixture against Fulham would normally do the trick. To say they were awful away from home is an understatement. The reverse has historically been true of Chelsea, if you’re looking for a result, going to Stamford Bridge isn’t the best location to hope leaving with a point or three.
As with teams, the same pattern can be seen with players. For whatever reason, they just perform much better at home than they do away. This I have always found is less predicate with those who lean on pen/free kick/corners assists for their points, as they are almost as common at home as away. With 6 goals and 5 assists in 8 1/4 home games compared to just 4 goals and 1 assist in 9 1/2 away from home, then you need to take note.
I’m not saying you should ever bench Sanchez away from home, but I’m saying that when he is at home, and this week he happens to be at home to a middle of the road Stoke team who have had only 2 cleans sheets in the last 14 games and 4 all season, you should take note. With Man City away from home, Man U facing a determined Southampton team, that really only leaves Chelsea heavy hitters to challenge Sanchez this week for the armband. Sure they are at home to Newcastle, but the annoyance with Chelsea is you never know which one of their 6 world class players will produce! Hazard could get 3 points, Costa 2 points, with Oscar getting 17 and Willian 13!
I conclude then that Sanchez is your best bet this week as not only a name on your team sheet, but as your captain, 11 goals/assists in 8 1/4 home games. Put me down for involvement in 2 goals, a clean sheet point, 60 min playing time 2 points, and why not 2 bonus for let’s say a 13 point haul!
Sleno’s Punt – Danny Ings
QPR at home. I have thought about this for a while and I almost was going to leave those three words as my whole defence “QPR at home” and I do believe that it is enough to convince the educated among you but maybe not everyone one of you, so here are a few additions to those three words:
Played 9, lost 9, conceded 22 goals. That is QPR’s away record. Sure it’s going to improve at some point, but I would imagine that would be AFTER Harry buys 13 new players on Jan 31 and not just yet!
Now listen up if you’re on a wildcard this week, and also those who are planning to play one soon. QPR at home is followed by Palace at home … you want a 2 week punt? Look no further, gamble, and be rewarded my friends!
Fresh from his goal against Newcastle, Ings is primed and ready! Playing as the main man up top, Ings will no doubt have plenty of chances against QPR’s old, slow and leaky defence. With penalites in his locker, put me down for a penalty from a sloppy challenge, a couple of bonus for a total of 8 points from 5.6 million Ings this week!
Villa Simon’s Punt – Stephane Sessegnon
I have really gone out on this one as we are yet to see how new Baggies boss Mr Pulis will line up in his 1st league game. Plus Sess is not exactly pulling up any trees this season with just 1 league goal and only earned bonus on 1 occasion.
But I have a sneaky feeling he could be ready to go on a little run of form and more like the Sess of old we saw at times for the Black Cats. And only 0.3% ownership at time of writing, not many have this fella. As long as he starts, I truly believe he will be involved in some goal action at home to the Tigers.
