Star Player and Punt - Gameweek 15 - Tom v Michael

So after 3 in a row Ant’s run ended last weekend seeing Tom as the new Champ. Tom’s challenger is everyone’s favourite Aussie…Michael. Both have chosen a Star player (free choice) and Punt (under 4% ownership), with the winner taking on the next challenger in Gameweek 16.

As usual we ask the challenger to write a couple of lines introducing themselves…so Michael writes a book!

My full name is Michael Vukovic and I have been a regular fantasy football manager for the past 5 years, although I have been suspect to drop off my interest later in the season. Since joining the illustrious FPL Dugout crew, it has only driven me to become more successful while contributing to the weekly banter.

I was born on the 6th of November 1988 in Melbourne, Australia. On the exact same day 2 years prior, Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed manager of the Mighty Manchester United, perhaps a sign of things to come. My background is Croatian, both parents and grandparents born in Croatia, moving here in the early 70’s. My love of football began from an early age and the decision to choose the ‘beautiful game’ over Aussie rules (Australia’s most popular viewed sport) was as simple as they come.

I started playing football at the age of 6 and was a pacey and skilful right winger right throughout my career at a club called the Melbourne Knights. As a young lad, I would regularly watch the senior team and idolised the young Mark Viduka who started his successful career here before reaching the stars and playing in Croatia, Scotland and England. I played football until I was 18 and regrettably gave up my club playing days once I started University. I still enjoy playing with the lads in the park or creating and participating in futsal teams throughout the summer.

As many of you know, I am a proud and fanatical Manchester United supporter and have been supporting the ‘Red Devils’ for over 15 years through thick and thin. Thin being last season in the Moyes era. These days I continue to watch my much loved United and football in general on Saturday and Sunday mornings ranging from 10pm to 6am due to the time difference here. I wouldn’t change a thing, the best time of my week. Just happy to be part of a community that loves football as much as I do, long may it continue.

Tom’s Star Player – Alexis Sanchez

I agree with Arsene Wenger that he is the player that has adapted best of all the major signings this summer. He just fits in the Arsenal mold beautifully and his work rate and fitness are second to none.

Best of all he looks super confident. I watched them the other day and he wants to take players on, have a shot and make things happen going forward. He’s not always been best supported by their forward line but with competition for the lone striker role now hotting up, I think he really can take advantage.

He’s playing Stoke! What happened to their miserly defence? They just look poor this season, supporting my long held opinion that Hughes really is a two-bob manager who has dined off the mediocre improvement of a Wales team for some time now! Burnley, Leicester and Villa have all got 3 points from their travels to the Potteries and Arsenal will surely do the same with Sanchez leading the charge.

Michael’s Star Player – Sergio Aguero

This week I am going for ‘Kun’ Aguero. I was strongly considering Sanchez but Tom beat me to the punch. Why Aguero? Simple really, arguably the best player in the Premiership and at this moment in time the form player in the league. I’m hoping his goal scoring continues and I believe it might very well do as City host Everton.

Having scored a whopping 14 goals already this season and leading the point scoring in the Fantasy Premier League overall, this wasn’t a hard decision. Aguero is no doubt Man City’s star player and this week I hope he is mine.

Michael’s Punt – Yannick Bolasie

Although it wouldn’t be too surprising to say that I’ve gone for someone from left field given that this is the ‘punt’, I am hoping my ambitious approach pays dividends. This week I’ve gone for Yannick Bolasie from Palace. He’s only scored once and assisted 4 times this season, but having the chance to watch him closely over the last couple of months, this boy can play, there’s no doubt about that!

He’s quick, skillful and has got a bag of potential; the only thing missing in his locker is his final product. Hoping he’s got his shooting boots on this week and does well when Palace take on the Super Spurs at White Hart Lane. (Sorry Kevo)

Tom’s Punt – Harry Kane

I refer to my previous reasoning for picking ‘arry – confidence. You can just see it in his game and he seems to make things happen when he plays. Pochettino has finally seen what we’ve all been seeing for months. He’s probably the best forward option Spurs have at the moment, what with the clown and Bobby Soldado hardly setting the world alight with their work rate and strike records respectively.

Harry has both of these qualities in spades and, similar to Stoke, Palace’s defence just isn’t cutting the mustard this year. Joel Ward; remember him? He was a premium rate defender this time last year, yet despite playing every game, Palace have only kept one clean sheet and he’s not scored or assisted once!

I hope to see Tottenham bounce back from being outclassed at Chelski and where better than at the Lane against Palace to do so?
