Star Player and Punt - Gameweek 11 - Ant v Bivash
After smashing Kevo 21-10, Bivash provides the challenge this week for Ant. Both have chosen a Star player (free choice) and Punt (under 4% ownership), with the winner taking on the next challenger in Gameweek 12.
Bivash is from northern India and although he’s followed football for quite some time, he only started playing FPL from Gameweek 4 of last season. He’s a lifelong Barcelona fan and FPL is another thing that he can’t survive without.
Ant’s Star Player – Sergio Aguero
My star pick is going to be Sergio Aguero. I don’t think I need to go into much detail where this pick is concerned. He became the Premier League’s top scorer last weekend with his goal against Manchester United knocking Diego Costa off top spot. Aguero is facing QPR’s leaky defence this week, and although the R’s are better defensively at home, City have scored more goals away so I’d still count on them conceding a couple. With an average of 1 goal for every Premier League match this season I can’t see him slowing down.
I took a points hit this week to get the City star in as I feel he is becoming a must have and can’t think of many options to cancel out the huge points that he keeps bringing in. Barring any freak injuries or him getting rested, I think Aguero owners are in for another profitable week.
Bivash’s Star Player – Angel Di Maria
Well if Louis van Gaal and Manchester United’s fans want to take one positive from last weekend’s Manchester derby, it will be their never back down attitude.
This week they welcome a struggling Crystal Palace without their influential captain Mile Jedinak. Even though United have their own defensive issues, their attacking firepower should not let them down against the 17th ranked side in Premier League. Now if we talk about United’s attacking power, one man has stood tall, their record summer signing Angel Di Maria.
Di Maria has banged in 3 goals and 4 assists in 8 appearances this season.
He has scored as many as 30 points against sides in the bottom half of the table (QPR, Leicester and West Brom), and Di Maria’s fearless running and inch perfect crosses will cause plenty of problems for Palace’s back line, who have conceded 11 goals in 5 away games this season.
So if all goes to plan it could hopefully be another fruitful week for Di Maria owners.
Bivash’s Punt – Sadio Mane
Who would have expected such a start from a team who sold almost all their key players in last summer’s transfer window? Yes I am talking about Southampton who are currently sitting pretty 2nd in the table.
Saints are on a fantastic run, this week hosting another out of form side Leicester City. After their amazing comeback against Manchester United, Leicester are winless in 5 games and have now slipped to 18th in the table.
Saints are scoring goals for fun at St Mary’s (15 goals in 5 games) and the best way to get into that devastating attacking line up, that has some high owned players like Pelle and Tadic, is by choosing my punt Sadio Mane. The Saints winger has plenty of potential with 2 goals and 1 assist to his name. Costing £6.9m and with just 0.3% ownership, this isn’t a bad deal for an attacking Saints player, so if Saints put in a decent attacking display again, Sadio Mane could be easily amongst the points.
Ant’s Punt – Theo Walcott
I was dubious about picking Walcott as I still don’t think he’s going to play that many minutes this week, and that’s hard to justify for someone with a price tag of £9.0m; but hey it’s called a punt for a reason I guess!
Arsenal played a tough Champions League encounter midweek and I am hoping some of their players will be tired, giving Wenger a chance to get Walcott some much needed game time. I fully expect him to start from the bench but with 11 minutes under his belt last week, it’s highly likely he will get more this time around.
Anyone who has played FPL previously will know what a good prospect a fully fit Walcott can be in your team. Currently owned by only 0.4%, it may be a smart move to jump on him early. Regardless of this Gameweek I think he will start to return good points and become a popular pick in the weeks to come, especially if Welbeck continues to disappoint in the goals department.
