Punt of the Week - Gameweek 34 - Arouna Kone

After sitting back and handing over to Sleno and Marco for the last few months, I return with a punt on Wigan’s hotshot striker, Arouna Kone.

In a Gameweek that sees some of the top sides pitted against each other, and not many stand out fixtures, it seems a perfect time to look into the horizon to find our target, and Arouna Kone is our man.

The Potential

The Ivorian striker has lit up the Premier League in his first season on these shores, scoring 10 goals, and assisting 5 times. But it’s his potential to carry this on that we’re really interested in.

Wigan’s annual end of season escape bid is under way, and Kone’s playing in a side fully motivated for the season climax.

Kone faces West Ham at Upton Park this weekend, a side with only 1 clean sheet in their last 10 home games, and who have conceded the second most shots inside their box in the last 4 Gameweeks. Kone could get chances, then.

That’s followed by a juicy looking double Gameweek 36, that includes a visit to West Brom and a home clash against Swansea, while Wigan entertain Aston Villa in their final game of the season.

Kone’s recent threat is as strong as ever, with 14 efforts on goal in his last 4 games, and I’m backing the striker to finish the season with a flourish.

The Risk

Kone plays for the most unpredictable side in the Premier League. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes woefully bad. So there’s plenty of uncertainty in signing up the Ivorian.

Wigan also face a couple of tricky matches in their last five, with a home game against Spurs in Gameweek 35, followed by a trip to Arsenal in Gameweek 37.

The Final Word

For this price range, Kone looks one of the best double Gameweek strikers around, and I’m backing him to come good, with Wigan’s dire need for points giving us a goal hungry front man for a decent price.
