AK's top three captain picks - Gameweek 2

The opening week is past us and it’s time to look ahead. We all need different captaincy options as there won’t be many double Gameweeks from now on, which makes our captain options more risky. This new weekly feature should provide managers with food for thought.

Robin van Persie

No surprises here. Captain Reliant as they say, RVP looks the most favoured armband prospect in FPL, and rightly so, as he just doesn’t seem to stop getting attacking returns.

Seemingly fixture-proof, he has the ability to score against any given club on any day and Fantasy managers wouldn’t hesitate giving him the armband, even though the match is against Jose Mourinho’s improved Chelsea.

Another thing in his favour is that the game is at Old Trafford, and RVP has a good record against Chelsea. He knows how to score against the Blues, with a hat-trick just 2 seasons back and also scored a goal against them in last season’s fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Christian Benteke

The double Gameweek hero, Benteke scored 3 goals against two of the best defences in the league last week (Arsenal and Chelsea). On top of that, both of his games were away from home.

Aston Villa might well be this year’s dark horses, and having retained their top striker, they don’t seem to give away a clean sheet against any team with their attacking approach.

The game is against Liverpool at home this week, and having scored a brace in the same fixture last season, there is no doubt that the towering Belgian can’t repeat his performance this weekend.

Roberto Soldado

Tottenham’s record signing, Soldado marked his debut with a calmly taken spot-kick that sent the keeper the wrong way to hand him maximum bonus points and Tottenham the win.

There is no doubt that the Spaniard has goals in him and his performance in the game against Palace, especially in the second half, was very good.

Up against a Swansea side that took a 4-goal beating from Manchester United at home, Soldado could reward his managers with some attacking returns, and a double-digit score might well be on the cards, with him missing it in Gameweek 1 by just a single point.
