5-a-Side Challenge - Gameweek 3 - Aaron
In July, I announced a new weekly feature – the 5-a-Side Challenge. Each week, one of us will pick a 5-a-side team for the upcoming Gameweek. The team must not exceed a budget of £35m, and you can only have one player from the same team. In addition, the team must conform to a 1-1-2-1 formation.
It’s now my pleasure to kick off the feature, so I give you my 5-a-side outfit for Gameweek 3, which comes under budget at £33.3m.
Jack Butland (4.5)
Not too many keepers stand out this week, so I’m opting for Stoke’s Jack Butland, who faces Norwich at Carrow Road. A clean sheet is far from certain, but there’s always a chance when the opposition’s leading forward is Cameron Jerome.
Aleks Kolarov (5.6)
Kolarov is my Man City player of choice. I’m fully expecting Kolarov to start, despite Clichy being back on the bench last weekend. I may regret going without an attacker, but the Serbian is always an attacking threat from left-back and has already tallied the highest number of shots amongst defenders.
Dimitri Payet (7.6)
I was a little wary in pre-season over whether the Frenchman could deliver in the Premier League, but I was clearly being too cautious. Payet already has a goal and assist to his name and I expect him to continue that trend against Bournemouth this weekend.
(C) Memphis Depay (8.5)
My captain for the week. I’ll admit that I’ve been swayed by his midweek brace against Club Brugge in the Champions League. It’s surely only a matter of time before the Dutchman hits form in the Premier League, especially now he’s in his favoured left wing role, and Newcastle at home could be the perfect opportunity.
Bafetimbi Gomis (7.1)
Gomis has finally stepped out of Wilfried Bony’s shadow and looks a proper Premier League striker. I just had to include a Swansea attacker for their trip to the Stadium of Light. Sunderland’s backline look desperate and I’m backing Gomis to make it three goals in three games.
