Open your Persie strings for a Robin Reliant!
Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has announced on his official website that he will not be extending his contract at the Emirates.
As he approaches the final year of his contract he has stated he needs to win trophies at this stage in his career and feels he cannot do that with the Gunners.
He had this to say:
“I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.”
He will follow the likes of Fabregas and Nasri as the big names continue to flow out of the Emirates stadium.
The Manchester clubs will again head the queue for his signature and fantasy managers will already have alarm bells ringing and will be watching Arsenal’s pre-season with anticipation.
We have seen this before in the shape of Wayne Rooney denying he will sign a contract but with RVP you feel even if Wenger finally spends the clubs money on persuading the Premier League’s most potent striker to sign, there is still a significant chance Arsenal yet again will end up empty handed come next May.
The club however remain adamant that RVP will see out the remainder of his contract despite the obvious financial windfall they could miss out on.
There are further talks planned between RVP and Gazidis when he returns from his holiday.
You cant help but feel that the boat has sailed on RVP and even with the additions of Podolski and Giroud they will fail to emulate even between them the feits of what he had achieved this season.
This could be the story that finally kicks the transfer window into action, and I’m sure there will be several knocks on the chairmen’s doors all over Europe asking if they can afford a well known Dutchman from North London.
Watch this space I guess!!!
