Manchester derby poses captaincy issues
Robin van Persie’s brace today was not good news for those without the Dutchman, and they now face further problems next week.
The clash between Man United and Man City will throw our usual captaincy favourites into a cauldron of toughness.
The likes of Rooney, Nani, Silva and Aguero will face off in a challenging game.
Those with van Persie have an obvious captaincy choice – he’s at home to a Stoke side who have struggled away from home, particularly after European games.
Suarez also stands out at home to Norwich, and perhaps Chelsea players at QPR.
Those without van Persie and Suarez must decide whether to captain a Manchester player or gamble elsewhere on smaller names.
Many will ditch Rooney or Aguero for van Persie – but is that really worth it?
Arsenal go to Chelsea the following Gameweek, just as Rooney and Aguero begin a run of tasty games.
Would you gamble on handing the armband to van der Vaart at Blackburn?
His fitness is a concern, and he lasted just an hour today.
Redknapp has recently said he’ll pick between van der Vaart and Defoe after the Dutchman’s unwillingness to track back on the wing.
Defoe’s goal today – replacing van der Vaart from the bench – will do him no harm.
Perhaps Adebayor is a safer option.
Agbonlahor may lead the way of the smaller names, as he faces off at home to local rivals West Brom.
An interesting week ahead – and plenty thinking to do!
