FPL Dugout Champions League stats – know your opponent

So you’ve qualified for the FPL Dugout Champions League group stages. You’ve picked your squad and are ready to lead them into the first gameweek’s battle, but what of your opponent? You’ve never heard of them, what are your chances of making it through the latter stages?

Here is the low down on the elite that FPL Dugout has to offer and their basic credentials from the season so far. A lot can change in 6 gameweeks especially with the fixtures that lay ahead, so you may not be the highest ranked player in your group but as the saying goes form is temporary, class is permanent.

Take from this what you will, some groups are definitely more closely matched than others. Group D is interesting for instance which has the highest ever FPL finishes averaging at around 11k whilst this season their average scoring is below average at 1303.

Bivash is one of 3 managers on 9 green arrows in the last 10 gameweeks, however his current rank of 1.3m suggests those green arrows are easier to come by so could he be considered a contender or not for the crown? Group B with Aaron and Geord’s 2 excellent finishes suggests they could improve as the weeks go by, but six weeks can go like a flash, and will the cream rise to the top? So who will qualify?

Group A

JW with the highest rank and highest team value and seed no. 1 is the man to beat in this group and unless he “plays up” should join one of the others in the knockout stages. All three hold a trump card here. Cooky shows from his 4k finish that he can mix it at the top, Ceres has the form with 8 greens from 10 but Martino could use that wildcard and surprise the lot of them.

Group B

Some excellent finishes in this group and FPL pedigree here in my opinion looks like it’s 2 spots between 3 with Goalzz bowing out early. Geord has his wildcard but dwindling team value could be a factor. It’s Geord or Stunes to join Aaron in the knockout stages for me.

Group C

With an overall position of 1,615 Meshari is the undoubted favourite in this pack. He is the form player of this group also, if he can keep his head in the transfer market it should be an easy passage through. Alastair looks in good shape also but Tom B will be looking to cause an upset as his team value suggests he could field a team Meshari could only dream of.

Group D

With an average FPL finishing rank of 11k, these players are in for the long haul. Current FPL Dugout Champions League Champion Fauzan is rightly number 1 seed in this group and Bivash’s 1.3m rank suggests this is a season too early for him. So Shiva versus Kyle for the 2nd qualifying spot looks game on.

Group E

Villa Simon looks well placed in this group to qualify with 8 greens in the last 10 gameweeks. There could be a shock in this group as qualifier Alyssa looks like she could be the pioneer for the girls and qualify for the first time from an FPL Dugout Champions League group. Sean, despite being 63k places below her in the table, holds a team value of 109.5 which is 2.1 more than Alyssa, so if he can get his players performing he could live up to his second seed billing.

Group F

I think Sleno had his computer upside down when these seeds were drawn as Luke currently sits seed numero uno. He will have to hope Christian Benteke delivers over the next 6 weeks if he has any hope. If recent form is anything to go by then who knows. Tom D with a sub 3k rank looks the pick of the bunch and then a straight fight between Sleno and Jason for second spot. Jason is showing good form, can Sleno hold on?

Group G

The stats show this is a three horse race with Steve picking up the rear, with 8 green arrows in 10 gameweeks and a 13k overall finish to his name don’t be surprised if the toffee gives the others food for thought in this group. You could throw a blanket over the other 3 group members as they be separated. Their final finishes suggest Bryan and Kevo are slight favourites and with Kevo’s luck that could give him the edge in these tight matches ahead.

Group H

This group in my opinion should be the group of death with all 4 managers separated by a mere 27 points. Marco is showing the form, the only obvious indicator as to the direction of this group. Tony could unleash his wildcard for the upcoming turbulent gameweeks and Dom with a team value of 110.4 should be a contender with the team he should be able to field. Some close matches ahead in this one I feel.

So that’s a little insight into the main protagonists of the 8 FPL Dugout Champions League groups. This is only for fun so don’t be offended if I think you haven’t got a hope in hells chance of qualifying. I sincerely wish every manager the best of luck (apart from Tony, Wayne and Dom of course)!
