Supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK with Tony’s National 3 Peaks Challenge
These are the most important words I’ve ever written on here, and it’s a real pleasure to raise awareness of this.
Tony Roberts, a regular on FPL Dugout, is taking on a National 3 Peaks Challenge in June to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s Research UK – the UK’s leading dementia research charity.
Tony writes:
On 23rd June 2012 I will be starting my National 3 peaks Challenge. The challenge is to climb and travel between the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in 24 hours. The 3 peaks are: Ben Nevis, Scotland – 1,344 m (4,409 ft); Scafell Pike, England – 978m (3,209ft); Snowdon, Wales – 1,085m (3,560ft). Not only the climbing, but also the driving, eating and sleeping have to be done in this time too!
This is a truly great cause and a remarkable challenge helping Alzheimer’s Research UK find preventions, treatments and a cure for dementia. Imagine a world free of dementia – the ultimate goal.
Tony would be extremely grateful if you could support him in any way. Thank you.

Happy New Year from FPL Dugout
I would like to wish every single one of you a very Happy New Year! I hope 2012 brings you, your families and your friends good health, peace and happiness.
There’s many of us out there who had a terrible Gameweek this weekend, but it’s a good time to remember it’s just a game, and we all have a lot to be thankful for!
There’s also a huge sporting year ahead, with Euro 2012 and the Olympics in London. Bring on the summer!
FPL Dugout was launched in June 2010, and it’s come a long way. I’m proud to have brought together such a great community from around the world. From Australia, to India, to Iran, to Saudi Arabia, to America, and back to the UK – I’ve really enjoyed chatting and getting to know you.
It’s amazing you’ve all come back after listening to my endless moans about my misfortune. Actually, today, I can’t believe Rooney didn’t… sorry, I nearly started again there.
Thank you very much everyone, particularly Sleno, for creating and running the MSA Prediction Game… Shiva, Mesh and Dudu for being such active contributors… and let’s not forget Scotty B, who just makes me chuckle with his contributions on the chat.
Sir Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney may have spoiled my FPL Christmas but fingers crossed for a lightening start to 2012, with huge points hauls for Jagielka, Drenthe and Sessegnon today!
There’s always hope eh! We’re exactly at the half way stage so expect endless more twists and turns!
FPL Dugout League Head to Head opens
I have opened our Head to Head League. There’s 23 spaces left. We’ll play each other once.
The code to join is 1014-550800. It’s on a first come, first served basis, so get in there quick if you want to join!
Thanks to Dudu for suggesting the Head to Head League!
Shiva’s 3 Player Game hasn’t been forgotten. This game is pencilled in to launch Gameweek 20, but I’ll let you know if it’s ready sooner.
The delay is my fault, but once I down my full time job for a few weeks, I’ll be able to dedicate some time to setting this up.
I’m also planning to spruce up the site with a new poll and new articles as we approach a hectic run of Gameweeks!
17 December – Gameweek 16
20 December – Gameweek 17
26 December – Gameweek 18
30 December – Gameweek 19
2 January – Gameweek 20
* Edit: the league is now full. Thanks to all who joined, and sorry if you missed out.
Announcement – FPL Dugout League scoring to stay from Gameweek 1
I would just like to confirm that the FPL Dugout League scoring is to stay unchanged – so scoring is kept from Gameweek 1.
FPL kindly (hmm, cleverly) gave league administrators the option to reset league scoring totals to start from Gameweek 2 (after many people could not log in before Saturday’s deadline), but my personal preference is to keep things unchanged, and that’s been backed up by carefully observing the comments on this site.
Thank you very much to those who have contributed, especially Kris K, who has gathered opinion over the last 24 hours.
This is what the site is here for and it’s great how many of you are getting involved. We have a great atmosphere here.
Fantasy Premier League issue apology
The FPL have today issued an apology over the log in and registration problems that so many of us had on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
Read the statement in full here
The most crucial detail is that we’ll all get unlimited free transfers for one more week, up to this weekend’s Gameweek 2 deadline.
1. Receive unlimited transfers – No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.
An unprecedented move that’s likely to cause friction further more. Good teams can now be copied but on the other hand managers do deserve a second chance for the problems.
Also, it’s been announced that live updates will be back this weekend, and league tables will update every night, as they did last season.
Would be really interested in your thoughts on this one!
Problems logging into Fantasy Premier League 2011/12
I’ve seen lots of comments around the FPL community tonight of people being unable to log in to the game, and experienced this first hand last night when my sister couldn’t log in.
The FPL servers are being hit hard and the amount of people logging in at once has been mooted as the cause of the problem. It’s been taking people up to 40 minutes to log in.
There’s 2 suggestions which have helped people:
1) Clear your browser cookies, restart your browser, and try logging in again.
2) Try clicking on the ‘My Team’ link even if it says failed log in. People have been logged in when it says they haven’t been able to get in.
I guess we just need to be patient. If you can wait an hour or so, then do. It should be running like clockwork later tonight.
Hope this helps. And I wouldn’t log out once you’re in.
Pre-season report – form players, first XI’s, tactics, injuries and more
Pre-season has come and gone in the blink of an eye and the start of the Premier League is almost upon us.
When we come to build our initial squads, pre-season is one of many different factors we use to make our decisions.
It should be taken with a pinch of salt sometimes, but it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on who has made the best transition from the beach to the pitch in the friendlies.
We can also begin to see how managers are going to shape their squads this year, the systems they may use, and who’ll be first choice.
I’ve spent time looking over all the clubs in pre-season and am delivering all you need to know here.
It’s a long old read so why not put the kettle on and get stuck in – or save for lunchtime reading.
I hope you find some of the snippets useful, whether they reaffirm your team decisions, or force a rethink for the good of your team.
And please do add your comments if I have missed anything!
Use your fantasy skills to win a cash prize
Fancy winning some money? FPL Dugout has endorsed a league ran by fantasy.wehub.co.uk where you pay a £5 entry fee for a chance to win a big cash prize.
Wayne Ellison, who runs the league, said:
“For the coming season I have set up a website which gives people I know a chance to win a cash prize at the end of the season… I have suggested that those who want to be involved pay a £5 entry, with the entry deadline at the end of August. All entry money will go towards the prize (with a very very small fee put towards hosting the website). I have not decided on how the prize money will be split just yet (winner takes all, 1st-5th etc.) but will make that decision after the entry closing date.”
So why not head over to fantasy.wehub.co.uk, put in a fiver, and you could be celebrating a tidy profit come May!
